Every Friday somebody texts me asking what we're doing this weekend, usually more than one somebody. I've been answering that text with a roundup for a while now, and this is that roundup with a proper home.
Here's the problem it solves: Santa Barbara does not lack for things to do, it lacks a filter. Most event calendars will happily list forty things happening Saturday, thirty-eight of which you'd never take your kids to, while the good stuff takes digging: the thing that sells out, the thing that needed a reservation two weeks ago, the weird wonderful thing nobody advertised.
So every week I do the digging. I go through what's on across Santa Barbara, Goleta, the Valley, Ventura, Ojai, and Oxnard, plus the occasional day trip worth the gas, and pull out what I'd actually tell a friend to do: daytime plans that work with kids, things worth leaving the house for at night, the seasonal stuff, festivals, farms, and the things you have to book now or lose.
I'm a dad of three, and if I wouldn't load up the car for it, it's not in here.
The roundup lands on Thursdays. If you hear about something good: tickets about to open, or an event the rest of us shouldn't miss, send it my way, and I'll check the details and add the ones worth adding.
If that's useful, subscribe, and send it to the parent who's always asking what everyone's doing this weekend. You know the one.
