🎄 The Hometown Christmas & Holiday Guide 2026
What to book now, where to find the lights, and the holiday traditions worth planning around.
As an Amazon Associate, Hometown earns from qualifying purchases. That applies only to the few book links in this guide. Every event and venue link still goes straight to the organizer.
The best holiday experiences don’t all happen during Christmas week. Some of the most memorable ones require reservations in October. This is our running Central Coast holiday guide, with confirmed dates, clear booking status and a separate watchlist for experiences that haven’t announced their 2026 details yet.

A few picture books that pair with outings in this guide. They also make easy stocking stuffers. If you’d rather buy local, Chaucer’s Books in Santa Barbara is a good first stop.
Before SYV Holiday Lights: The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. The festival has a miniature train ride, and this is the classic to read the night before. Ideal for: 3+.
Before the Nisser Adventure in Solvang: The Tomten by Astrid Lindgren. A quiet bedtime story about the Swedish cousin of the Danish nisse, the little gnomes kids will be hunting for around town. Ideal for: 3+.
Before the Hans Christian Andersen walking tour: Illustrated Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales from Usborne. Andersen’s best-known stories, retold for younger readers. Ideal for: 5+.
For Hanukkah: Latkes and Applesauce by Fran Manushkin. A warm story about a family snowed in for Hanukkah, with notes on the holiday, latkes and dreidel at the back. Ideal for: 3+.
